Q: : My toilet flushes ok but after several hours the water level in the toilet pan has fallen to below its normal level. The cistern is filling ok. Any idea what could be causing the problem? Sue

A: This can be caused by a negative pressure somewhere in your sewage system causing a bit of extra water to be pulled out by suction. If this is a recent thing it could be caused by a blockage somewhere - give the system a thorough plunging and see if it makes any difference. It might also be a leak somewhere in the toilet - a crack in the porcelain or the waste pipe - do an inspection for any leaks. This is one of those problems that doesn't have a single cause, it could be any number of things, but hopefully I've given you a few ideas.
