Q: how do i "bend" skirting to fit around a bay window alcove at floor level - Joe

A: If it's an angled bay, you will need to saw the skirting at the correct angles, it's easiest to go and buy a adjustable mitre guide. If the curve is continuous and the skirting is relatively lightweight you can steam the wood in the shower until it bends into place. If the skirting is heavy duty you may be out of luck. A lot of people don't bother putting skirting into bays in the first place because of problems like this. You can buy plastic flexible skirting but it generally looks horrible and won't match what you already have.
